Document Archiving, Reporting, and Regulatory Tracking System (DARRTS) - When the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) was under pressure to revise its regulatory compliance processes for new drug approvals, it called upon the experts at Platinum Solutions. Platinum Solutions was brought in to develop a new system that would be the central component of the FDA's enterprise solution.
Platinum Solutions was able to successfully design and develop the DARRTS System, a component-based multi-tier enterprise application accessed via a Web-based interface. The system was developed using a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) to accelerate deployment, increase security, ensure the highest possible quality, and facilitate the expansion to an enterprise solution.
During development, 4,000 individual requirements and 1,800 business rules were documented which resulted in 600,000 lines of code being developed, tested, and deployed in less than 10 months. The implementation of DARRTS integrated 10 FDA legacy systems.
DARRTS provides the FDA with the capability to better manage, track, receive, and report on new drug and drug product applications and is a major advancement in terms of flexibility, integration, and meeting FDA business and business process requirements. Platinum Solutions delivered the DARRTS system as promised, on schedule and under budget.
The DARRTS project was so successful that the FDA Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) Program Manager was awarded an FDA Commissioner's Special Citation and also recognized with a "Rescue Hero" award by Federal Computer Week for his work.
